Lu'an Guapian

Lu’an Guapian comes from Dabie Mountains of Anhui province, which is not only the Chinese traditional historical famous tea, but also one of the top ten Chinese famous teas. Guapian tea was known as the best quality green tea in the Tang and Ming Dynasty, And it became the imperial tribute tea in the Qing Dynasty. Lu’an Guapian becomes world famous because of its unique production place and traditional making skills. The average altitude of Lu’an Guapian’s main production areas are over 500 meters, pleasant climate and ecological condition is another advantage for tea tree growth.

Lu’an Guapian is the only one with no bud and no stalk of all the tea in the world, and is made by single leaf. Guapian teas are picked within ten days before and after the Grain Rain. Just picking two or three leaves from one branch and only taking “strong ones” are the tips for selecting tea leaves. The main production areas are located in the original Jinzhai County and Yu’an district.

The production of Guapian tea should go through seven steps, including picking fresh leaves, tea leaves classification, sterilization with high temperature and baking. In 2008, Lu’an Guapian was listed in the national intangible cultural heritage project. Zeng Shengchun is the inheritor of this national intangible heritage skill, and also the chairman of Lu’an Tea Industry Association.

Guapian tea is shaped like melon seeds and has jade green color, with flat surface, slightly warped leaf margin and slight white frost on the leaf. When it is brewed, the soup appears green and bright, with great smell and mellow taste. The chemistry containing in the Guapian tea has good health efficacy, such as anti-aging, reducing blood lipid and preventing halitosis.
